THE KICK OFF:  The Lincoln men's soccer team closes a three-match road trip on Wednesday (Sept. 23) with a trip to Kansas City, Mo. to play Rockhurst at 7:30 p.m. CDT. Through six full games in 2026, LU is unbeaten with three victories and three draws. The Blue Tigers won at Upper Iowa, 1-0, on Sept. 16, and played to a 3-3 tie at Truman State on Sept. 20. Rockhurst, meanwhile, is 3-3-2 overall and 2-1-2 against GLVC competition. The Blue Tigers and the Hawks met in the final match of 2025 in Kansas City with the GLVC regular season title on the line, but played to a 0-0 draw. The Hawks have finished two of their past three matches with 0-0 scores and are 1-1-2 in their last four games.

PREVIEWING THE BLUE TIGERS:  Vincent Osei has posted one shutout in 345:30 in goal while Felipe Mattos has two shutouts. Jonathan Nemorden leads Lincoln with three goals while Jerome Lawel, Pedro Gomes, Jaden Grant and Makwe Nkoana each have one goal. Ackeem Mullings has two goals on the year.
 
HEAD COACH SAMMY SAMUELS:  A proven winner, Sammy Samuels is in his third season as the head coach of the Lincoln men's soccer team. Last year, Samuels led the Blue Tigers to a 10-0-6 record in the regular season as well as a berth in the NCAA Sweet 16. During five seasons as the head coach at Maine-Fort Kent, Samuels coached 13 All-Americans and posted a 53-12-8 record. During that span, UMFK won the 2022 USCAA national title and was the national runner-up in both 2019 and 2021.

Lincoln 1, Upper Iowa 0
Felipe Mattos made five saves and Lincoln held a 15-10 advantage on total shots in LU's 1-0 win at Upper Iowa on Sept. 16. Makwe Nkoana scored on assists from Jerome Lawel & Junior Grizzele in the 67th minute.
 
Lincoln 3, Truman State 3
Lincoln led 3-1 with 15 minutes remaining, but Truman State scored twice in the span of 3:28 to end the match in a 3-3 draw in Kirksville, Mo. on Sunday (Sept. 20). Jonathan Nemored scored on a penalty kick, Nathan Quashie and Jaden Grant both had assists, and Ackeem Mullings & Junior Grizzelle had the other goals for Lincoln. Vincent Osei made three saves.
 
SCOUTING THE HAWKS:  Tommaso Silanos has two goals on the season while nine other players have one goal for Rockhurst. The Hawks have 11 goals against 14 for their opponents. Troy Lor leads RU with two assists and Blake Barrick has a goal and an assist. Samuele Neri leads Rockhurst with 11 saves.
 
TO BE CONTINUED:  Lincoln's home opener vs. McKendree ended up being postponed with 4:19 remaining in the first half due to lightning in the Jefferson City area. At the time the match was stopped, the Blue Tigers held a 2-0 lead. Akwasi Agyepong had a goal and an assist to lead LU's offense. The date the match will be resumed is still to be determined.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  After leading Lincoln to a win in its first full-length home match of 2026, goalkeeper Vincent Osei was selected as the GLVC Defensive Player of the Week. Osei, who has claimed that award three times in his career, made seven saves, including one on a penalty kick in the final minutes of the 3-1 victory over Southwest Baptist. SBU had entered that match as the top-scoring team in the GLVC, but Osei did not permit a goal until the 85th minute.
 
WIN OR DRAW: Lincoln has not lost a match in the regular season since its penultimate contest of 2024, when the Blue Tigers fell to Rockhurst at home, 2-1. Under head coach Sammy Samuels, the Blue Tigers have gone 20-8-14, and have won or played to a draw in 23-straight regular season matches. In 2025, Lincoln went 10-0-6 before it began its postseason run, which ended in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.
 
NATIONAL NOTES:  Felipe Mattos has a pair of shutouts and is ranked fourth in the GLVC and 32nd in NCAA Division II in that statistic. With 1.83 shots on goal per game, Jonathan Nemorden is third in the conference and 25th nationally. He is also 37th nationally in shot accuracy (.611).
 
TEAM DIVISION II RANKS:  As a team, Lincoln ranks 15th in NCAA Division II in shutouts with four on the season. Lincoln's team goals against average of 1.000 is the 38th-best in the country. The Blue Tigers 33rd in DII in shots per game (14.8), 37th in shots on goal per match (6.7) and 27th in team winning percentage (.750). Finally, LU is 42nd in corner kicks per game (5.7).
 
CAPITAL CAMPAIGN:  All of Lincoln's home matches this season will be played at Capital City High School. Lincoln is 4-0 all-time at that venue, including a 4-0 victory over Missouri S&T in the GLVC tournament and a shootout win over Tiffin in the NCAA tourney last year. Lincoln also beat Drury, 7-0, at CCHS in 2024.
