Blue Tigers Make History With Win Over Southwest Baptist

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's soccer team made program history on Sunday (Sept. 13) with its 1-0 victory over Southwest Baptist.

The Blue Tigers won a home conference match for the first time in its three seasons as a program. Each of LU's previous GLVC victories came on the road.

After withstanding a bevy of shot attempts by Southwest Baptist (2-3-1, 0-2 GLVC), including five corner kicks, Lincoln (2-3, 1-2 GLVC) scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 36th minute. The Blue Tigers broke through to the offensive third and Sofia Valdivia crossed a pass to Madison Wimberly, who shot it past the keeper into the top left corner of the net.

The Bearcats held a 10-5 advantage in total shots as well as an 8-0 edge in corners, but Kanon Dehama made five saves to preserve the shutout. Mia Greathouse had a shot on goal while TeTee Jallah, Addyson Hines and Jaelyn Drake also had shot attempts.

Lincoln will be on the road for its next three matches, starting on Wednesday (Sept. 16) when the Blue Tigers visit Fayette, Iowa to play Upper Iowa at 5:00 p.m. CDT.
