UIU Takes Two From LU

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln baseball team opened the GLVC portion of its home slate on Friday (March 13), as the Blue Tigers dropped both games of a double-header to Upper Iowa. The Peacocks took the opener, 11-4, and won game two, 14-4.

The Blue Tigers got off to a strong start in the first game, with Andy Srebroski IV scoring on a sacrifice fly by Tim Fleming in LU's third at-bat of the contest. Easton Stuckenschneider hit a home run that also plated Daren Walters-Ansell later in the opening frame, giving LU the early 3-0 advantage.

The Peacocks took advantage of an RBI single in the third inning to open their scoring, then cut the lead to one with a home run to open the fourth inning. UIU hit a two-run homer later in the fourth to take the lead, then scored on a fielder's choice to end that inning with a 5-3 lead. Lincoln (4-13, 0-6 GLVC) cut its deficit down to one in the bottom of the fourth when Blythe Blakey led the frame off with a home run.

Upper Iowa (9-10, 2-0 GLVC) scored five more runs over the the next three frames to take control of the contest and finish with a 15-8 advantage in hits. Canon Feist, LU's starting pitcher, struck out two Peacock batters. Kooper Houvouras closed the contest and struck out three batters.

Walters-Ansell ended the opener with two hits while Srebroski, Fleming, Aiden Streight and Felix Marquez each had one. Streight, who played in center field, led Lincoln with seven putouts while Stuckenschneider and Hunter Mitchell each had six. Walters-Ansell led LU with four assists and Srebroski totaled three.

Upper Iowa struck first in the second game, scoring a pair of runs in the second inning and not looking back. Lincoln scored the final four runs of that contest, beginning in the bottom of the fifth, when Hunter Mitchell hit a homer that also plated Fleming. Mitchell got his third RBI of the game in the bottom of the sixth after driving in Diego Silva with a single. Stuckenschneider later hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Fleming.

In addition to Mitchell's two hits, Srebroski, Streight, Walters-Ansell and Nolan Laughlin also had hits for LU. Brody Kleffner racked up three strikeouts as Lincoln's opener and relievers Tyler Jackson and Cam Hoelscher each fanned one. Laughlin led the Blue Tigers with six putouts and Mitchell supplied four while Walters-Ansell finished with three putouts and three assists.

Lincoln will play two more games against Upper Iowa on Saturday (March 14). First pitch of that double-header is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CDT.
