MARION, Ill. - The Lincoln softball team scored six runs in the bottom of the second and held on for a 9-1 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan at the Oasis Sports D2 Tournament on Friday (Feb. 27).
Kentucky Wesleyan (3-9) scored its lone run on an RBI double in the game's opening frame. The Blue Tigers took control of the contest in the second inning, which began with a leadoff single from
Faith Jaegers.
Josie Bezzole was issued a walk and
Josie Stewart drove in Jaegers on a base hit. Bezzole later scored on a single from
Hannah Heisler, Stewart reached the plate via a passed ball and
Ella Percival made it a 4-1 game by coming home on a single from
Ann-Marie Simpson.
Gracie Wright later plated both Heisler and Simpson on a base hit.
In the bottom of the fourth, Percival scored on a ground out from Simpson to give Lincoln (3-0) a 7-1 advantage. A sacrifice fly by
Maris Ollison allowed Heisler to score later in the frame. LU added its final run in the bottom of the sixth, as
Cooper Powell scored from second on a hit by Jaegers.
Wright, Stewart and Jaegers each had two hits while Ollison, Simpson, Percival and Heisler finished with one apiece.
Jaedin Blankenship got the win in the circle,
Abrea Simmons fanned a KWC batter and
Maddie Sechrest struck out three batters in the final inning. Stewart led LU with nine putouts while Percival had four assists.
