BOLIVAR, Mo. - The two teams played each other evenly for most of the night, but a 12-4 run in overtime helped Southwest Baptist beat the Lincoln men's basketball team on Thursday (Jan. 8).
A late three by the Bearcats sent the game into halftime with the scored deadlocked at 30. In the second half, Southwest Baptist (9-5, 3-3 GLVC)Â led by as many as 13, but a pair of three-pointers from
Tyler Chapman and a steal by
Solomon Oraegbu that he converted into a layup pulled the Blue Tigers to within 55-50.
Robin Discamps drained a three to get Lincoln (7-8, 1-6 GLVC) within two, but the Bearcats ended the scoring run by making two free throws.
With just over a minute remaining,
D'Necco Rucker made a three to bring LU to within 57-56 of the Bearcats. SBU was sent to the line with 51 seconds to play, but made just one of the two free throw attempts. That allowed
Malcolm Davis to tie the game at 58 on a jumper with 38 ticks left on the clock. Both teams attempted shots before time expired, but the game remained tied with zeroes on the clock.
Oraegbu led the Blue Tigers with 16 points and three steals, and also provided three rebounds and an assist. Chapman contributed 13 points, five assists, five boards, a block and a steal to the Lincoln effort while Davis ended the night with 11 points, two boards, a pair of assists and a steal. Rucker also secured five rebounds and blocked a shot.
Matthieu Biembongo had a team-high three blocks, scored seven points, grabbed five rebounds and notched a steal.
Max Ekono, meanwhile, ended the evening with 13 rebounds, three points, three assists and a steal. Discamps, who blocked a shot, and
Rashad Williams each collected two rebounds.
Tyler Lucas rounded out Lincoln with six points.
The Blue Tigers will be in Springfield, Mo. on Saturday (Jan. 10) to play Drury at 3:00 p.m. CST.
