LU Rally Falls Just Short Against Quincy

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln baseball nearly rallied from a 5-0 deficit against Quincy in the first game of a double-header on Friday (April 18), but the Hawks held off the Blue Tigers to eke out a 5-4 victory. In the second game of the afternoon, Quincy won by a final score of 11-1.

Quincy (20-22, 13-11 GLVC) took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning of the opener and brought in three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Lincoln (4-36, 2-22 GLVC) began its comeback in the bottom of the sixth, as Miguel Padron singled before coming home on a home run hit by Jayden Little.

After stranding a QU runner in the top of the seventh, the Blue Tigers went back to work in the bottom half of the frame, starting with Ty Ollison reaching on an error. After back-to-back walks loaded the bases, Ollison scored on a fielder's choice to pull LU back within two. Chase Morris later scored when Isaiah Figueroa was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, but a line out ended the threat with Quincy ahead, 5-4.

Sreboski, Padron, Little and Felix Marquez each tallied hits and Ryan Lepper notched three strikeouts while pitching the complete game. Drake Davidson led LU with seven putouts, Little supplied six and Padron and Easton Stuckenschneider finished with three apiece. Figueroa led Lincoln with three assists.

In the second game, Lincoln scored in the bottom of the first on a solo home run by Padron, but Quincy scored the next 11 runs to take the series. Padron had two hits and Andy Sreboski IV had one. Carter Otto struck out three Hawk batters while Ed Noy and Davidson each fanned one. Ollison led the defense with five putouts while Padron and Little each had four.

Lincoln travels to Kirksville, Mo. next weekend to play a four-game series against Truman State. The teams meet for a single game on Friday (April 25) at 3:00 p.m. CDT. Lincoln and Truman State will play a double-header on Saturday (April 26) at 1:00 p.m. CDT before playing another single contest on Sunday (April 27) at 12:00 p.m. CDT.
