Lewis Edges Lincoln, 6-4

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln baseball team led through four innings, but Lewis rallied in the fifth for a 6-4 win over the Blue Tigers in game two of a double-header on Friday (March 21). The Flyers also won the opener, 13-3.

The Flyers scored on a throwing error in the top of the second, but the Blue Tigers evened the score in the bottom half of the frame when Ty Ollison scored on a ground out by Isaiah Figueroa. Ollison reached after being hit by a pitch, then advanced to third on a double hit by Jacob Schulte. Figueroa was also a key part of Lincoln's second run of the game, as, in the bottom of the fourth inning, he got on base with a single, stole second and later scored on a base hit by Ryan Lepper, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Blue Tigers.

Back-to-back doubles in the top of the fifth allowed Lewis (13-5, 8-2 GLVC) to score two runs and take back the lead, and a two-out single later drove in another score to make it a 4-2 affair. The Flyers added to their lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI triple and a sacrifice fly. Lincoln (2-20, 0-6 GLVC) tried to rally, as Felix Marquez scored on a hit into right field by Jayden Little and Andy Sreboski IV came home on a sacrifice fly by Miguel Padron, but the Flyers stranded two Blue Tiger base runners to end the contest.

Jacob Zahner struck out five Flyers and Carter Otto fanned one while Little finished the day with eight putouts and Jared Fulghem ended the afternoon with six. Sreboski led Lincoln with three assists.

Lewis led from start to finish in the first game of the day, scoring multiple runs in each of the first four frames to build a 13-0 lead. Figueroa led the bottom of the fifth off with a base hit and Sreboski followed with a double. Lepper drove in Figueroa with a ground out for the first Blue Tiger run of the afternoon, then Sreboski scored on a hit into center field by Padron.

Lincoln shut out the Flyers the remainder of the game and got back on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh when Little scored on a triple hit by Ollison. Drake Davidson notched two strikeouts as Lincoln's starter while Lepper closed the game and struck out five.

Blythe Blakey went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Blue Tigers offensively. Ollison and Padron each had two hits while Sreboski and Figueroa finished with one apiece. Ollison posted seven putouts, Figueroa was next with six and Little added four. Sreboski was credited with a team-high four assists, Blakey finished with three and Figueroa provided two.

Lincoln and Lewis will play two more games at Vivion Field as the teams meet for a double-header on Saturday (March 22) at 12:00 p.m. CDT.
