ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Three Blue Tigers scored in double figures and
Matthieu Biembongo nearly had a double-double as the Lincoln men's basketball team defeated Lewis, 69-64, on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 8).
The victory improves Lincoln to 16-6 overall and 8-6 in GLVC play. It was the third win in a row for the Blue Tigers as well as their fourth victory in their last five games. Saturday's win, along with a 75-65 home victory over Lewis on Dec. 5, gives Lincoln a sweep over the Flyers.
Andreas Fuller led Lincoln with 21 points and five assists, and he also grabbed three rebounds while
Franck Yetna finished with 11 points, four boards and a block.
Tyson Robinson came off the bench to provide 10 points, three rebounds and a steal. Biembongo, meanwhile, blocked five shots, scored eight points and secured nine rebounds while also notching a steal.
Lincoln held Lewis (13-8, 8-6 GLVC) to .396 shooting overall and allowed the Flyers to make just eight field goals while shooting .286 in the first half. Lewis only made three shots from beyond the arc and Lincoln won the battle on the glass, pulling down 34 rebounds compared to 24 by the Flyers. The Blue Tigers, meanwhile, shot .453 for the contest and .824 from the free throw line.
At the end of the first half, Lincoln had a 32-22 lead over Lewis, thanks in large part to a 24-9 scoring run over the final 11 minutes of the half. The Blue Tigers led by as many as 11 in the second half, but the Flyers scored six-straight points to pull back within 58-53 with 5:34 to play. Later in the contest, with Lincoln holding a 62-55 advantage, Lewis made a jumper, recorded an old-fashioned three-point play and hit two free throws to tie game with 2:38 remaining.
With just over a minute to play and the score deadlocked at 64, Yetna made a dunk to swing the momentum back in Lincoln's favor. The Blue Tigers made three free throws down the stretch and held the Flyers scoreless for the final 1:26 of play to seal the five-point victory.
Tyler Chapman ended the day with seven points, five boards, four assists and a steal while
Max Ekono provided five points, a rebound, a steal and an assist.
Malcolm Davis also scored five points to go with four boards, two steals and an assist.
Mikey West closed out the scoring for Lincoln with two points, two rebounds and an assist.
Lincoln will be back in Jason Gym for its next two games, beginning on Thursday (Feb. 13), when the Blue Tigers host Truman State at 7:30 p.m. CST.
