ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Lincoln men's basketball team scored 56 second-half points to rally from a 16-point deficit and beat Maryville, 89-77, on Monday evening (Feb. 24).
With the win, Lincoln improves to 20-7 overall and 12-7 in GLVC play. The Blue Tigers have a 20-win season for the first time since 2000-01, and have also clinched a berth in the GLVC tournament, which will be held in St. Charles, Mo. on March 6-9.
Andreas Fuller had a double-double, scoring 13 points to go with 10 rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Tyler Chapman led LU with 27 points and grabbed four rebounds, dished three assists and recorded one takeaway.
Franck Yetna tallied 19 points, two boards, a pair of assists and a block while
Mikey West totaled 16 points, five rebounds and a team-high four assists.
After Maryville (7-20, 3-16 GLVC) built an early eight-point lead, Lincoln fought back to pull within 21-19, but the Saints answered with a 15-4 run to take a 36-23 advantage with 5:39 until halftime. A layup by Yetna and a trey from West placed the Blue Tigers back within eight, but a layup bookended by three-pointers gave Maryville a 44-28 lead. Maryville ultimately went into halftime with a 47-33 advantage, as the Saints shot .655 from the field and .539 from long range during the first 20 minutes.
The second half was a completely different story. After shooting .387 from the floor and .267 from long distance in the first half, Lincoln found its groove in the second, shooting .500 overall and .565 from three-point land. The Blue Tigers scored the first 13 points of the half and took the lead for good on back-to-back treys by West and Chapman right before the 11 minute mark. The Blue Tigers would later lead by as many as 16, thanks to a defensive performance that allowed the Saints to shoot only .333 over the final 20 minutes.
Max Ekono led Lincoln with 12 rebounds and scored seven points to go with three assists.
Malcolm Davis grabbed nine rebounds and tallied an assist and a steal.
Tyson Robinson came off the bench to provide five points while
Matthieu Biembongo rounded out LU with two points and a steal.
Lincoln closes its regular season on Thursday (Feb. 27) by hosting GLVC-leading Missouri S&T at 7:30 p.m. CST.
