MEMPHIS, Tenn. - For the first time since 2016, the Lincoln baseball team took the field on Saturday (Feb. 1) as the Blue Tigers played Christian Brothers University in a double-header. The Buccaneers won the opening game, 13-4, but the second game came down to the wire before a run in the bottom of the ninth allowed CBU to win, 3-2.
Jayden Little, who went 3-for-3 at the plate during the second contest, drove in Andy Sreboski on a right field single in the third inning to open the scoring. After stealing second, Little scored the second of the contest on a base hit by
Jacob Schulte.
Brody Johns also had a hit for Lincoln as the Blue Tigers finished with six hits compared to five by Christian Brothers.
The Buccaneers cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly then later tied the contest in the seventh on an RBI single. Neither team got on the board again until the ninth frame, when CBU managed to bring in the winning run on a wild pitch.
Drake Davidson pitched the first six innings of game two, allowing three hits and just one run while striking out four. Defensively, Little led LU with 13 putouts while
Jared Fulghem was next with four. Davidson, Sreboski and
Chase Morris each turned three assists while
Jacob Claborn was responsible for two.
The first runs of the season for Lincoln came in top of the first inning of game one, as Little hit a homerun over the centerfield wall that also plated
Miguel Padron. The Blue Tigers tallied seven hits in the opener, but committed six errors, which, along with 17 hits, helped Christian Brothers earn the victory. Sreboski scored for LU on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth while Little hit a solo homerun in the eighth for Lincoln's final run of the contest.
Ed Noy struck out three batters as LU's starting pitcher while
Carter Otto struck out four.
Easton Stuckenschneider had eight putouts, Little finished with seven and Padron was responsible for five. Sreboski and
Isaiah Figueroa each turned two assists.
Lincoln will remain in Memphis to play Christian Brothers on Sunday (Feb. 2) at 12:00 p.m. CST.
