JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The score was tied entering the final eight minutes of the contest, but Quincy notched a pair of late goals to escape with a 4-2 win over the Lincoln women's soccer team on Friday night (Oct. 24).
The Blue Tigers struck first on an alert play from
Ivanna Faria. Quincy (10-2-2, 9-1-1 GLVC) passed the ball backwards to the goalkeeper to reset its offense in the ninth minute of play. The ball rolled slowly, however, and Faria beat the keeper to the ball and kicked into the wide open net to give Lincoln (1-8-3, 1-8-2 GLVC) the 1-0 lead.
It continued to be a 1-0 match until the 43rd minute, when the Hawks managed to notch the equalizer. The contest entered halftime tied at 1-1, and neither team was able to get back onto the board until the 73rd minute, when an unassisted goal allowed Quincy to take its first lead of the night.
In the 82nd minute, a fortuitous ricochet allowed
Madison Wimberly to knock the ball into the net, knotting the score at 2-2. Over the final eight minutes, however, Quincy was able to capitalize on a pair of opportunities to secure the win. A stolen ball near the LU net helped the Hawks take a 3-2 lead in the 84th minute, and Quincy later made it a two-goal match with another score in the 89th minute.
Michelle Granja made nine saves for the Blue Tigers while Faria finished with two shots on goal.
Mia Greathouse also had a shot on the net.
Lincoln will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday (Oct. 26) when the Blue Tigers close their home slate by hosting Truman State at 12:00 p.m. CDT.
