ROLLA, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team tallied 18 hits en route to a 13-7 win on the road over Missouri S&T on Friday afternoon (April 19). The victory gave LU a split on the day, as the Miners edged the Blue Tigers, 4-3, in the first contest of the day's double-header.
Missouri S&T (21-25) scored the first five runs of game two, all in the first inning, but the Blue Tigers scored the next 13.
Kierra O'Rourke and
Taylor Heimbaugh had base hits in the top of the second, advanced to second a sacrifice bunt laid down by
Lindsey Brandt, and O'Rourke reached the plate on a ground out from
Abbi Conrad to cut the deficit down to 5-1.
After forcing the Miners to go three-up, three-down in the bottom of the second, the LU offense got back to work in the third, as
Leslie Callahan singled into left field before scoring on a sacrifice fly from
Ella Percival.
Torri Hinnah hit a double and scored on a base hit from Heimbaugh, pulling the Blue Tigers to within 5-3.
Another three-and-out defensive frame kept the LU deficit at two entering the fourth inning, where the Blue Tigers took their first lead of the contest with a five-hit performance. Brandt and Conrad opened the fame with back-to-back doubles and Callahan scored on an outfield single by Hinnah to tie the score at five. Percival had a base hit and later scored, along with Hinnah, on a base hit by O'Rourke, putting Lincoln (13-31) on top, 7-5.
A double by Hinnah with the bases loaded plated Conrad and Brandt to put LU ahead by four through five innings. In the top of the sixth, Brandt drove in O'Rourke with a ground out and
Emily Thompson reached home on a single from Conrad. The Blue Tigers padded the lead with two more runs in the top of the seventh, with Callahan scoring on a single by
TK Lawson and Hinnah scoring on a sacrifice fly from Heimbaugh.
Conrad and Hinnah each had three hits while
Gabby Newman had one. Thompson, Callahan, O'Rourke and Heimbaugh finished with two hits apiece.
Joss Marriott earned the win in the circle while
Jaedin Blankenship closed the game and struck out two Missouri S&T batters. Defensively, Hinnah led LU with eight putouts while Brandt was next with five. Newman turned four assists and Conrad supplied three.
Lincoln out-hit Missouri S&T 8-7 in the first game, but the Miners scored on a fielding error in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the 4-3 win. Lincoln struck the first blow, as Conrad scored on a base hit by
Mackenzie Graham. Conrad led the game off with a single through the left side, reached second on a base hit by Callahan, and then took third on a ground out by
Maris Ollison. Lincoln would go on to load the bases, but Missouri S&T forced a ground out to strand all three Blue Tigers.
Missouri S&T scored three runs on three hits and an LU error in the bottom of the first, but would not get back on the scoreboard until the bottom of the seventh. Lincoln, meanwhile, cut the Miner lead down to one in the top of the second, as a ground out by Callahan drove in Brandt. Lincoln tied the game in the top of the fourth when Brandt scored once again, this time on a sacrifice fly hit by Conrad.
Conrad and Brandt each had two hits while Callahan, Graham, Hinnah and Heimbaugh finished with one apiece.
Mallorey Rogers started in the circle and struck out a Miner batter before
Abby Pulliam came in and struck out two.
Kasey Kilburn did not allow hit in a closing role.
Jamilyn Bagby led LU with four putouts while Brandt, Hinnah and Newman each tallied three. Conrad finished with three assists and Rogers provided two.
