WU Takes Two From LU

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team dropped a pair of games to MIAA rival Washburn on Saturday afternoon (March 23), falling 11-1 in the opener and 9-0 in the second contest.

The Blue Tigers scored their run in the bottom of the fifth inning as Abbi Conrad hit a double before scoring on a base hit into right field by Maris Ollison. Lincoln (9-19, 1-9 MIAA) had six hits in the first game, including two apiece by Conrad and Ollison.

Washburn (26-10, 7-5 MIAA) scored once in the top of the first and three times in the second before breaking the game open with a five-run fourth inning. Lincoln's defense stranded eight Ichabod runners on the base path, but Washburn kept six Blue Tigers on base while tallying 11 hits.

Gabby Newman and Torri Hinnah each had a hit during Saturday's first game and Mallorey Rogers rang up a strikeout in the circle. Hinnah recorded a team-high six putouts while Ollison and Josie Stewart each had two assists.

The second game was a 1-0 affair entering the third inning, but Washburn drove in six runs during its half of the frame to take control of the contest. The Ichabods later ended their scoring with a two-run homer in the top of the fifth.

The Blue Tigers were held to three hits: two from Kierra O'Rourke, who went 2-for-2 at the plate, and one by Mackenzie Graham. Paige Rademann and Kasey Kilburn each struck out WU batters in the circle. Hinnah supplied five putouts while Newman and Paige Schaffer were each credited with three. Conrad led LU with two assists.

Lincoln next plays on Friday (March 29), as the Blue Tigers travel to Tahlequah, Okla. to play two games against Northeastern State at 1:00 p.m. CDT.
