WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team dropped both games of a double-header to Central Missouri on Tuesday evening (March 19). UCM took the first game, 8-0, and won the second, 2-0.
Abbi Conrad,
Leslie Callahan and
Torri Hinnah each had hits for Lincoln (8-16, 0-6 MIAA) in the late game, but the Jennies scored on a double steal attempt in the second inning and on a sacrifice fly in the third to win the game. LU's best chance to score came in the sixth inning as
Josie Stewart was issued a walk and Callahan and Conrad hit back-to-back singles to load the bases, but a pair of strikeouts ended the threat. In the seventh inning,
Madi Hampton reached third base, but ended up stranded on a strikeout.
Paige Rademann struck out two Central Missouri (11-13, 3-3 MIAA) batters as the opener of the second game while
Kasey Kilburn allowed only one hit and fanned two UCM batters in a relief role.
Taylor Heimbaugh led the Blue Tiger defense with five putouts while
Kierra O'Rourke had four and
Vanessa Cardenas was next with three. Stewart provided three assists.
The first game of the evening was scoreless after the first inning, but the Jennies broke through with a solo home run in the bottom of the second. Central Missouri added two runs in both the third and fifth innings while plating three in the fourth.
Mallorey Rogers struck out a batter and Conrad and Hinnah each were credited with four putouts.
Gabby Newman supplied three assists, Conrad finished with two and
Jamilyn Bagby recorded one.
Lincoln will host its first MIAA double-header of the season on Friday (March 22) as the Blue Tigers take on Emporia State. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CST.
