WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Lincoln men's basketball team went 2-0 against Central Missouri this season as the Blue Tigers beat the Mules on the road, 52-51, in overtime on Saturday (Feb. 3).
Lincoln (13-7, 8-6 MIAA), which beat Central Missouri in Jefferson City, 61-52, on Dec. 9, held the Mules to just .227 shooting from long range and .317 overall. The Blue Tigers held a 41-35 advantage in rebounding, but turned the ball over 18 times, resulting 18 points for UCM.
The Mules led for most of the first half until
Elijah Farr drained a three to tie the game at 24 with 17 seconds left in the first half. Central Missouri made a trey of its own to take a three-point lead into halftime, and later held a six-point advantage before a 7-0 LU run, keyed by an old-fashioned three-point play by
Franck Yetna, gave Lincoln its first lead of the second half with 14 minutes remaining in regulation. Farr led the Blue Tigers with 16 points and collected four rebounds to go with an assist and a steal. Yetna, meanwhile, finished with 12 points and eight boards.
The Blue Tigers held the lead for much of the rest of the second half, though the Mules rallied to tie the game on four occasions. The final tie came with 19 seconds to play, as a layup knotted the score at 49, leading to the overtime period. The extra five minutes turned into a tough defensive tussle, with the teams combining to score just five points. Farr scored all three of Lincoln's points on a jumper and a late free throw, and he also had a steal in the final seconds to end one of UCM's last possessions.
Jose Roberto Tanchyn led LU with 10 rebounds and three blocks while also scoring five points.
DJ Richardson finished with eight points, five boards, three assists and a steal while
Trey Boston came off the bench to provide seven points and four rebounds.
Jamar Madge, Jr. and
Tyson Robinson chipped in two points apiece, and both players had a steal while Madge claimed two rebounds.
Sam Rautins rounded out the Blue Tigers with five rebounds.
Lincoln will try to make it two sweeps in a row on Thursday (Feb. 8) when the Blue Tigers visit Joplin, Mo. to play Missouri Southern at 7:30 p.m. CST. Lincoln beat Missouri Southern in Jefferson City, 76-65, back on Dec. 16.
