Blue Tigers Fall to Pittsburg State on Saturday

PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Lincoln men's basketball team out-rebounded Pittsburg State, 40-36, but the Gorillas took advantage of a hot day at the free throw line to beat the Blue Tigers, 75-56, on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 10).

Jose Roberto Tanchyn nearly recorded a double-double, finishing with nine points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Four Blue Tigers scored eight points apiece, including DJ Richardson, who also provided four boards and four assists. Jamar Madge, Jr. also had eight points to go with four rebounds.

Lincoln (13-9, 8-8 MIAA) shot .359 from the field and .200 from long range while Pittsburg State (15-8, 11-6 MIAA) had an overall shooting percentage of .431. The biggest different in the game came at the charity stripe, as the Gorillas made 22 of their 23 free throw attempts. The Blue Tigers, meanwhile, were sent to the line 10 times, and LU made just five of those attempts.

Both teams were mostly turnover-free, with LU giving the ball away nine times to go with seven takeaways. Lincoln scored 12 points on second-chance opportunities and poured in 30 inside the paint, but Pittsburg State added 11 points off turnovers.

Franck Yetna, who grabbed three rebounds and notched a steal, and Arash Yaqubi, who ended the day with two rebounds, were the other Blue Tigers who scored eight points. Sam Rautins pulled down four rebounds and had a steal while Elijah Farr came off the bench to add six points, four boards and an assist. Trey Boston finished with two points, a pair of assists and three boards. Tyvin Garrison and Caleb Wright scored two points apiece while Clay Butler scored three points.

Lincoln will be back on its home court on Thursday (Feb. 15) to host Fort Hays State in Jason Gym at 7:30 p.m. CST.
