JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln men's soccer team led for nearly the entire contest, but a goal in the final seconds led to a 2-2 draw between the Blue Tigers and William Jewell on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 3).
Lincoln (5-6-5, 4-6-4 GLVC) led 1-0 at the end of the first half thanks to a goal by
Kevon Maitland in the 30th minute of the contest. William Jewell (5-8-4, 3-8-3 GLVC) got on the board for the first time in the 67th minute on an unassisted score, but the Blue Tigers answered at the 80:44 mark when
Albert Kemeh scored off a pass from
Finn Johannesmann for a 2-1 LU advantage. That lead looked like it would hold, but with just three ticks left on the clock, a Cardinal player kicked the ball out of a scrum and into the back left corner of the net to end the match in a draw.
The Blue Tigers finished with nine shots, six of which were on goal, while the Cardinals had 11 shots overall and seven shots on goal. Maitland had two shots on goal while
Guilherme Goncalves Capaldi,
Christopher Hull and
Shandee Brooks had one apiece. Hull had two overall shots and
Ackeem Mullings and
Ateibo Green each had one.
With the tie, the Blue Tigers fall just short of making the field for the GLVC playoffs. Lincoln celebrated Senior Day prior to the match, with seniors Capaldi,
Jonas Mueller and
Deshawn Patterson recognized for their contributions in re-starting the men's soccer program at Lincoln University of Missouri.
