KEARNEY, Neb. - A big first quarter propelled Nebraska Kearney to a 77-57 victory over the Lincoln women's basketball team on Thursday evening (Jan. 4).
Nebraska Kearney (11-2, 5-2 MIAA) finished the first quarter with a 27-11 advantage on .750 shooting. Lincoln (5-7, 1-5 MIAA) held the Lopers to just .333 shooting in the second quarter and forced 13 turnovers throughout the course of the night, but LU was limited to .396 shooting overall and .267 from three-point range. UNK also held a 39-25 edge in rebounding, but LU was a perfect 10-for-10 at the free throw line.
Steph Torres led the Blue Tigers with 17 points and three assists while
Ashlyn Alloway scored 13 points, grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, dished three assists and recorded two steals.
Imani Jones also finished in double figures, providing 12 points, six boards, an assist and a steal.
Saniya Simmons added seven points and
Heaven Shockley finished with four points and a pair of rebounds.
AJ Bradley and
Alyssa McCarty rounded out the scoring with two points apiece, with Bradley also tallying two rebounds, two assists and a steal. McCarty blocked a shot and also provided a rebound and an assist.
Biance Stocks notched a steal, a rebound and an assist while
Kiara Cabrera grabbed two rebounds and
Hanne Nybo finished with one.
Tatiana Beaumont also represented the Blue Tigers on the court.
Lincoln travels to Hays, Kan. on Saturday (Jan. 6) to play Fort Hays State at 2:00 p.m. CST.
