JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team made history on Saturday (Jan. 13), beating Washburn, 77-64, for its first-ever win over the Ichabods.
Imani Jones led the way for Lincoln with 23 points on 10-for-16 shooting as well as 10 rebounds and two steals.
Saniya Simmons dished a game-high seven assists and tallied four steals as the Blue Tigers forced the Ichabods into 21 turnovers. Simmons additionally had 13 points.
Lincoln (6-9, 2-7 MIAA) led for nearly the entire game. Washburn (10-5, 5-4 MIAA) scored the first points of the day, the Blue Tigers scored the next four, and the teams then exchanged points before a layup by
Biance Stocks sprung LU onto an 8-2 run. Lincoln led 14-10 after the first quarter and shot .500 from the floor in the second to build a 34-25 lead at halftime.
The Blue Tigers defense held strong in the third quarter, allowing the Ichabods to shoot just .294 from the field. Lincoln then dominated the fourth quarter, shooting .588 overall and .667 from three-point range en route to building a 19-point lead with 1:48 remaining. For the game, the Blue Tigers shot .471 from the floor while holding Washburn to a .386 shooting percentage.
Stocks scored nine points, grabbed two rebounds and tallied three steals while dishing an assist.
Ashlyn Alloway had eight points and six boards as well as a block and a steal.
Steph Torres also blocked a shot an chipped in nine points while dishing three assists and grabbing a rebound.
Alyssa McCarty provided seven points and
AJ Bradley scored four to go with three assists, three steals and a pair of rebounds.
Hanne Nybo collected four rebounds and added two points while
Heaven Shockley finished with three rebounds and a bloc.
Tatiana Beaumont closed the scoring with two points, a pair of assists and a board.
Lincoln will be on the road for its next two games, beginning on Thursday (Jan. 18) with a visit to Claremore, Okla. to play Rogers State at 5:30 p.m. CST.
