JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln men's basketball team led for most of the game, but a free throw with 1.4 seconds remaining gave Washburn a 70-69 win in Jason Gym on Saturday (Jan. 13).
The Blue Tigers led by four at halftime, but the Ichabods scored the first seven points of the second half to briefly take a 40-37 advantage. Later in the half, with WU leading by two,
Elijah Farr drained a three to put LU ahead 45-44. Farr was LU's leading scorer on Saturday, finishing with 16 points, three assists, three blocks and three rebounds.
Jamar Madge, Jr, who had seven points and five rebounds on the afternoon, extended the lead to four with a three-pointer of his own, one of 11 on the day for the Blue Tigers. Washburn (10-5, 6-3 MIAA) rallied to tie the score at 48, but
DJ Richardson made a three to swing the lead back to Lincoln (10-5, 5-4 MIAA). The Blue Tigers shot .423 from three-point range on Saturday and .403 overall, but had just a .333 shooting percentage in the second half.
A trey by
Jose Roberto Tanchyn with just over seven minutes remaining put Lincoln ahead 61-50, but Washburn went on a 15-2 run to go up by 67-63 entering the final 30 seconds of the contest. The teams traded free throws, then Richardson made a layup with 6.1 ticks left on the clock. Richardson ended the afternoon with 13 points, four assists and three rebounds while Tanchyn provided nine points, a pair of rebounds and a block.
Franck Yetna forced Washburn to turn the ball over on the ensuing inbound pass, and he quickly passed the ball to Madge who made a game-tying layup. The Ichabods immediately threw the ball across half court, and a foul was called on Lincoln while the WU player was attempting a shot. That sent the Ichabods to the line, where the first shot bounced off the rim but the second went smoothly through the net. Richardson attempted a half court shot as time expired, but the ball went off the rim.
Washburn shot .391 overall and just .267 from three-point land, but out-rebounded Lincoln, 45-35, and scored 18 points off 13 LU turnovers. Yetna had eight points, seven boards, two assists, a pair of steals and two blocks, and
Sam Rautins came off the bench to provide nine points, four rebounds and two assists.
Tyson Robinson had a steal, and
Trey Boston closed out Lincoln with seven points, a team-high eight rebounds, two assists, two takeaways and a pair of blocks. LU had eight blocks in the contest.
Lincoln will try to get back in the win column on Thursday (Jan. 18) when the Blue Tigers travel to Claremore, Okla. to take on Rogers State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST.
