Blue Tigers Fall to Bearcats in Season Finale

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team dropped a pair of games to Northwest Missouri in its 2023 finale on Saturday (April 29). LU fell in the first game, 12-0, and dropped the second, 6-2.

The Blue Tigers had seven hits in the opener, but stranded eight runners on the base paths. Qwynn Marquez and Maris Ollison each had base hits in the first inning, and, in the second frame, Madison Garcia reached on an error while Leah Wagner singled. Marquez later picked up her second hit of the day to lead off the third inning, and Emily Williams had a hit in that frame.

Emma Rakes had a base hit to open the fourth inning, and took second on another NWMSU error that allowed Garcia to reach safely. A fielder's choice would advance Rakes to third, but the Bearcats forced two quick outs to keep her from reaching the plate. LU's other hit of the contest came in the top of the fifth, as Ollison notched her second single of the afternoon.

Jordan Galliher started game one in the circle and struck out one NWMSU batter, and Joss Marriott had two strikeouts as LU's closer. Rakes posted a team-high four putouts while Wagner finished with three. Ollison and Myah Dwyer each turned two assists.

Lincoln (7-41, 2-24 MIAA) added six more hits in the second game, but Northwest Missouri (28-24, 11-15 MIAA) took a 6-0 lead through the first two innings and held on for the win. Kennedy Schanuth scored Lincoln's first run of the day in the top of the fifth, as she was issued a walk and took second on an error before Leslie Callahan drove her in with a single into right center. In the final inning, meanwhile, Hailey Dudenhoeffer advanced to third on a double by Imani Lambert-Butler before scoring on a ground out by Callahan.

Callahan finished with a pair of hits and two RBI, and Rakes and Williams also had hits in the late game. Callahan also stole two bases while Dwyer and Marquez each nabbed one. Galliher also started the second game and struck out a NWMSU batter. Callahan led Lincoln with six putouts, and Jacqueline Marquez turned four assists.
