Blue Tigers Drop Double-Header in Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. - The Lincoln softball team fell to Washburn in each of its first two road MIAA games of 2023 on Friday (March 24). The Ichabods won the opener, 5-0, and took the second, 7-0.

In the first game, Emily Williams had a hit in the top of the seventh while reliever Jordan Galliher struck out three WU batters. LU had a shutout going through the first two innings before the Ichabods broke through with an RBI double in the third. The Ichabods pushed four more runs across the plate in the bottom of the fourth, though the Blue Tigers kept WU off the board in each of the three remaining innings.

Leah Wagner led the Blue Tigers in the first game with six putouts while Leslie Callahan had three putouts and three assists. Maris Ollison and Myah Dwyer each turned two assists.

Washburn (25-5, 4-2 MIAA) got its offense going early in the second game, scoring four runs in the first inning and one more in the second. Callahan opened the game with a base hit for Lincoln (4-16, 1-5 MIAA), and had another single in the top of the third. In the sixth inning, Kennedy Schanuth was issued a walk, and took second on a single from Joss Marriott before stealing third. A strikeout, however, ended up stranding both Blue Tigers on base.

Ollison and Williams each had hits in the top of the seventh, and Maddie Welker rang up two strikeouts in the circle. Wagner led LU with five putouts while Williams was next with four, and Marriott turned four assists.

Lincoln heads to Emporia, Kan. on Saturday (March 25) to play Emporia State in a double-header at 12:00 p.m. CDT.
