Blue Tigers Beat William Jewell, 6-2, for First Win of 2023

LIBERTY, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team racked up 12 hits and Jordan Galliher racked up four strikeouts in the circle as the Blue Tigers beat William Jewell, 6-2, in the first game of a double-header on Saturday (Feb. 18). WJC ended up winning the second game, 3-0.

Leslie Callahan led the opener off with a double and later advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. Emily Williams then gave Lincoln (1-5) the early lead with a base hit down the right field line. The Blue Tigers later made it a 2-0 game in the second as Kennedy Schanuth drove in Maris Ollison on a sacrifice fly.

An RBI single in the bottom of the second cut the deficit in half, but that was as close as William Jewell (1-4) would come to pulling even with the Blue Tigers. In the top of the sixth, Schanuth got her second RBI of the day by bringing home Madison Garcia with a base hit, and Ollison scored her second run on a single by Leah Wagner. Callahan made it a four-run inning with a triple to plate both Schanuth and Wagner later in the frame.

Lincoln tallied 12 hits, including three by Ollison and two each from Jacqueline Marquez, Callahan and Wagner. Emma Rakes also had a hit, and Wagner led LU defensively with nine putouts while Marquez and Myah Dwyer had four apiece. Ollison turned three assists.

In the second game, Callahan once again had a hit to lead off the contest, but Rakes was the only other Blue Tigers with a hit. The Blue Tigers held the Cardinals to just four hits, but WJC managed to score a pair of unearned runs as part of a three-run first inning, which ultimately decided the game. Lincoln's defense shut out William Jewell the remaining innings, but the Blue Tigers ended up stranding five runners along the base path.

Ashton Stalling had a strikeout and allowed one earned run in a complete game performance, and Wagner had a team-high six putouts. Dwyer turned three assists while Ollison contributed two.

Lincoln returns to the diamond on Wednesday (Feb. 22), as the Blue Tigers are set to play a double-header in Bolivar, Mo. against Southwest Baptist. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CST.
