JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A three-pointer with just over four seconds remaining lifted William Woods to a 71-69 win over the Lincoln men's basketball team on Monday evening (Dec. 18).
A jumper from
Tyson Robinson with 4:02 remaining tied the score at 59, but a pair of free throws helped the Owls start a 9-2 run that put WWU up 68-61 with just under two minutes to play.
Trey Boston made a jumper to begin the LU comeback, then made two free throws before Robinson turned a rebound into a fast break layup, cutting the Owls' lead down to one. The Blue Tigers fouled, William Woods missed the first shot of its one-and-one, and
Elijah Farr grabbed the rebound.
As the clock ticked down to 10 seconds, Boston hit an off-balance jumper inside the three-point line that gave Lincoln back the lead in a contest that had nine ties and 15 total lead changes. William Woods raced back down the floor and, with 4.5 ticks left on the clock, made a pull-up three to go ahead 71-69. Lincoln called a timeout and Robinson got a look at a game-winning three, but the ball ricocheted off the rim, and the Blue Tigers fell at home for the first time in 2023-24.
Boston led Lincoln (8-2) with 16 points and grabbed three rebounds to go with an assist. Robinson added 12 points, three boards, an assist and a steal.
Jamar Madge, Jr., meanwhile, ended the game with 13 points, three rebounds and a team-high four assists.
