MAGNOLIA, Ark. - It was a close game through three quarters, but Southern Arkansas pulled away in the fourth to beat the Lincoln women's basketball team, 81-62, on Saturday night (Nov. 11).
Hanne Nybo hit a jumper late in the second quarter to make the score 35-34 in favor of the Muleriders at halftime, and a layup by
Ashlyn Alloway in the third briefly gave Lincoln (1-1) a 38-37 lead. SAU built a 10-point advantage with 1:34 left in the third, but Nybo drained a three and
Steph Torres made a pair of free throws to cut the Mulerider lead down to 55-50 by the end of the period.
The fourth quarter was a different story, however, as Southern Arkansas (2-0) opened the period with a 17-3 run to take control of the contest. The Muleriders shot .529 in the fourth quarter while allowing the Blue Tigers to make just four field goals. Lincoln shot .415 for the game and .429 from three-point range, but turned the ball over 33 times, which led to 38 points for SAU.
Torres led Lincoln with 18 points, four assists and three steals to go with three rebounds, and Alloway ended the day with 17 points, six boards, a pair of steals and a team-high two blocks.
AJ Bradley came off the bench to provide nine points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Tatiana Beaumont and
Imani Jones each blocked shots, with Beaumont additionally providing six points and three rebounds. Jones, meanwhile, finished with four points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Nybo ended the evening with five points and a pair of assists while
Biance Stocks closed the scoring with three points and five rebounds.
Kiara Cabrera added two steals, a rebound and an assist to the Lincoln effort.
The Blue Tigers will play at home for the first time in 2023-24 next Friday (Nov. 17), as Lincoln hosts Baptist BIble at 5:30 p.m. CST.
