TOPEKA, Kan. - The Lincoln women's basketball team had a big second half, but Washburn ended up on the winning side of a 73-59 decision on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 7).
Le'Yanna McGinnis led the Blue Tigers with15 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks, while three other LU players scored in double figures, including
Saniya Simmons, who had a team-best four assists. Simmons and
Aliyah Bello, who collected four rebounds, each scored 10 points, as did
AJ Bradley, who finished with two steals.
Lincoln (3-11, 1-7 MIAA) shot .467 from the field over the game's final 20 minutes, and LU scored 22 points in the fourth quarter. Defensively, Lincoln forced Washburn (7-6, 3-4 MIAA) into 16 turnovers and held WU to zero successful three-point attempts in the first quarter and just one in the second half. Washburn shot .500 overall, however, as well as .750 at the line.
Ashlyn Alloway also blocked a shot and grabbed four rebounds to go with five points, two assists and a pair of steals.
Kelsey Mitchell finished with seven points,
Niyah Jackson provided two boards and an assist, and
Miriam Bazylewicz rounded out the Blue Tigers with two points and five rebounds.
Lincoln returns to Jason Gym on Thursday (Jan. 12) to host Rogers State at 5:30 p.m. CST.
