TOPEKA, Kan. - Five members of the Lincoln men's basketball team scored at least 10 points as the Blue Tigers won on the road, 72-67, over Washburn on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 7).
DJ Richardson led the Blue Tigers with 17 points and notched a steal to go with four rebounds.
Sai Witt and
Franck Yetna each grabbed eight rebounds, with Witt also scoring 15 points, dishing two assists and registering a steal. Yetna had 13 points and blocked two shots to go with an assist and a steal.
Lincoln (8-4, 4-4 MIAA) dominated the first half, shooting .515 from the field and .438 beyond the arc while holding Washburn (5-8, 2-5 MIAA) without a successful three-pointer. The Blue Tigers led by as many as 20 on two occasions before the Ichabods ended the period on a 6-0 run to make the score 43-29 at halftime.
Sam Rautins got the offense going with a trey to open the second half, and another three-pointer, this one from
Artese Stapleton, put LU ahead by 16 with 16:23 remaining.
A technical foul assessed against the Blue Tigers helped start Washburn onto a 14-2 run to pull within four at the 10 minute mark, but Richardson swung the momentum back in Lincoln's favor by scoring the game's next six points. The Blue Tigers would lead by nine late in the contest, though the Ichabods rallied to pull within three with 12 seconds to play. Rautins made two clutch free throws in the final seconds to make it a two-score game, and Lincoln prevented Washburn from scoring the rest of the way.
Stapleton and Rautins each finished with 11 points, with Stapleton recording team-highs in assists (four) and steals (three) while grabbing five rebounds. Rautins finished with four boards and three assists, and
Caleb Wright chipped in three points while
Arash Yaqubi was next with two.
Jamar Madge, Jr. had a rebound and
Tyson Robinson dished an assist.
Lincoln will be back in Jefferson City on Thursday (Jan. 12) to host Rogers State at 7:30 p.m. CST.
