JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -
Niyah Jackson scored 15 points to lead the Lincoln women's basketball team on Saturday (Jan. 28), but the Blue Tigers fell to Central Missouri, 82-49.
Central Missouri (17-1, 13-1 MIAA), which entered the game ranked No. 7 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's Division II poll, shot .516 for the game, including .688 in the first period as the Jennies took a 27-7 lead after the opening 10 minutes. Lincoln (5-15, 3-10 MIAA) held the Jennies to just .231 shooting in the second quarter and outscored UCM, 15-9 in that period. The Jennies came out strong in the second half, however, scoring 27 more points in the third to take control of the game.
Lincoln limited the Jennies to just five successful three-pointers in 13 attempts, but Central Missouri forced 21 turnovers and finished with a 39-32 advantage in rebounding. Jackson led LU in scoring and had two rebounds, an assist and a pair of steals.
Ayreona Carter came off the bench to collect a team-high seven rebounds and scored four points to go with a block, and
Aliyah Bello totaled three assists and three steals as well as eight points and six boards.
Mercy Gonzalez finished with five points, five rebounds and an assist.
Saniya Simmons finished second in scoring with nine points and dished two assists to go with a pair of rebounds and a steal.
Kelsey Mitchell contributed six points, three boards and three assists to the Lincoln effort, and
Ashlyn Alloway added two points, a rebound, a steal, a block and an assist.
Le'Yanna McGinnis also represented Lincoln with a block.
Lincoln remains in Jason Gym to host Missouri Southern on Thursday (Feb. 2) at 5:30 p.m. CST.
