HAYS, Kan. - The Lincoln softball team tallied seven hits, but the Blue Tigers dropped two games to Fort Hays State on Saturday afternoon (April 16). FHSU won both contests by a score of 8-0.
In the first game, the Blue Tigers had four hits, but ended up stranding three runners on the base path.
Emma Rakes had two of those hits, while the others belonged to
Alex Miller and
Chloe Olson. LU shut out FHSU in the fourth inning, but Fort Hays State (22-23, 8-10 MIAA) managed to score at least one run in each of the remaining frames.
Lincoln (12-31, 0-22 MIAA) was led defensively by Olson with nine putouts.
Jordan Hollon had a team-high four assists, while
Leslie Callahan and
Alivia Rymer were next with two apiece.
Aidan Dayberry started the contest in the circle and notched a strikeout.
Fort Hays State struck first in the second game, but Lincoln kept it a 1-0 ballgame entering the third inning.
Jacqueline Marquez hit a single to lead off the inning, and
Katie Blair reached with a bunt. Callahan later reached base on ball to load the bags, but FHSU made a play at the plate in the next at-bat to keep Marquez from scoring.
In the bottom half of the frame, FHSU managed to plate three runs, and Fort Hays State kept Lincoln off the board the rest of the way. Rymer additionally had a hit,
Jordan Galliher struck out an FHSU batter, and Olson posted a team-high five putouts. Callahan and Hollon each turned two assists.
Lincoln will visit Quincy, Ill. to play Quincy on Wednesday (April 20) in a 2:00 p.m. CDT double-header.
