COLUMBIA, Mo. -
Leslie Callahan hit a pair of home runs, but the Lincoln softball team dropped a double-header to Missouri S&T on Wednesday (March 9). The Blue Tigers dropped the first contest, 6-3, and the second, 4-2.
In the night cap, both of Lincoln's runs came on Callahan's first two career homers, as she hit the ball out of the park in both the first and fourth innings. The Blue Tigers had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, as
Alivia Rymer led the frame off with a shot into left field, and
Leah Wagner followed with a single through the middle. The Miners managed to force the next three LU hitters out, however, to secure the win.
Missouri S&T (8-8) hit a solo home run of its own in the second inning, then took advantage of five hits to score its other three runs in the third. Lincoln (11-6) stranded three Miner base runners in the fourth inning, and turned a double play to keep Missouri S&T off the board in the fifth.
Rymer had two hits in the contest, and
Emily Williams also had a hit.
Aidan Dayberry pitched the complete game, and
Chloe Olson led LU with six putouts while
Qwynn Marquez had five and
Jordan Hollon was next with four. Hollon and Callahan each had three assists.
In the opening game, Missouri S&T opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly followed by a two-run double to take a 3-0 lead after two innings of play. Another sacrifice fly put the Miners ahead by four, but Lincoln got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth, as Callahan and Williams scored on bases-loaded walks issued to Olson and Hollon, respectively.
The Miners tacked on runs in each of the sixth and seventh frames, but Lincoln attempted to get a rally going in the bottom of the seventh. Hollon led the inning off with a base hit and later scored on a throwing error after Callahan notched a hit. A ground out ended up closing the contest.
Jordan Galliher struck out three Miner batters, and Callahan had two hits while Hollon and
Emma Rakes each had one. Defensively, Olson led LU with 10 putouts while Hollon tallied four assists.
