JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - In a rare Monday night (Feb. 7) MIAA contest, Missouri Southern got the upper hand over the Lincoln women's basketball team, as the Blue Tigers dropped a 77-48 decision.
Kelsey Mitchell was the leading scorer for LU with nine points, and
Kylie Bernskoetter was next with eight points, two rebounds and an assist.
Le'Yanna McGinnis added six points and six rebounds as well as an assist and a block.
Lincoln (5-17, 1-15 MIAA) fell behind 19-13 at the end of the first quarter, but the second period was the difference-maker in this contest. Missouri Southern (16-5, 13-3 MIAA) out-scored the Blue Tigers 23-10 in that quarter, taking advantage of .692 shooting from the field. The Blue Tigers totaled six steals and five blocks and created 12 turnovers, but scored just four points on those takeaways.
Imani Jones ended the evening with six points, six boards and a steal, and
Ashtin Ingram provided two points, two blocks, a rebound and a steal.
Mercy Gonzalez also scored six points, and grabbed four rebounds to go with an assist and a steal.
Bailey Lewis came off the bench late to provide two points, four rebounds and a block, and
Hya Haywood added five points to the Lincoln cause.
Niyah Jackson finished with two points and three boards while
AJ Bradley rounded out LU with two points, two assists, two steals, a pair of rebounds and a block.
Lincoln closes a three-game homestand on Thursday (Feb. 10) with a 5:30 p.m. CST contest in Jason Gym against Washburn.
