Blue Tigers Close Season With 89-79 Victory


JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln men's basketball team ended its 2021-22 season in victorious fashion, beating Central Missouri, 89-79, on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 26).

The Blue Tigers celebrated Senior Day prior to the game, with a ceremony held to honor Ni'Sean Rigmaiden and Alafia Oluwasogo. Rigmaiden nearly posted a triple-double, finishing with 10 points, eight rebounds and eight assists while also blocking two shots and tallying a steal. Oluwasogo, meanwhile, chipped in two points and pulled down two rebounds to go with a steal.

Yaniel Vidal went 7-for-8 for the day, with all of the baskets coming from three-point distance, as he led all players with 21 points and dished two assists to go with a pair of steals and three rebounds. He made several huge shots on the afternoon, incuding draining an off-balance three as time expired in the first half to give Lincoln (4-23, 3-19 MIAA) a 38-33 lead over Central Missouri (13-13, 10-12 MIAA) at the break. In the second half, the Blue Tigers fired at a blistering .750 pace from beyond the arc, and shot .667 from the field.

Five different Blue Tigers scored in double figures, including Chuck Wilson, who had 16 points, three boards, two assists and a steal. Derrick Woods added 14 points, two boards, an assist and a steal to the winning effort, and Mekhi Kimble finished with 12 points, five boards and three assists. For the contest, Lincoln out-rebounded Central Missouri, 34-23, and scored 15 points off fast breaks. LU held UCM to .394 shooting overall in the second half and .444 shooting for the ballgame.

John Gaines came one point shy of making it six Blue Tigers in double figures, as he ended the day with nine points, two boards and an assist. Mark Boland came off the bench to provide five points and four rebounds. As a team, Lincoln made 17 of its three-point attempts, including nine in the second half.
