JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A big first half made the difference as the Lincoln women's basketball team dropped a 70-49 decision to Nebraska Kearney on Saturday (Feb. 19).
Kelsey Mitchell led LU with 13 points and had two steals as well as a pair of rebounds while
Imani Jones added 11 points, three rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block.
Mercy Gonzalez led the Blue Tigers with 10 rebounds and chipped in seven points while recording a block.
Nebraska Kearney (20-6, 14-5 MIAA) took a 41-21 lead into halftime after shooting .467 in the opening quarter and .529 in the second. Lincoln (5-21, 1-19 MIAA) tightened up defensively in the second half, including limiting the Lopers to .308 shooting from the field and .000 shooting from beyond the arc in the final quarter. The Blue Tigers created 14 turnovers, resulting in 18 points for LU, and blocked four shots on the afternoon.
Haylie Holloway had one of those blocks, as did
AJ Bradley, who additionally provided four points, two boards and a team-high three steals.
Niyah Jackson scored five points and
Hya Haywood added two while
Kylie Bernskoetter closed the scoring with seven points, two rebounds and a pair of assists.
Lincoln travels to Wichita, Kan. on Thursday (Feb. 24) to play Newman at 5:30 p.m. CST in its final road game of 2021-22.
