BENTONVILLE, Ark. - The Lincoln softball team held an Arkansas Tech team that had scored 30 combined runs in its last two games to fewer than five, but ATU beat LU, 4-2, on Sunday morning (Feb. 13).
The Blue Tigers struck first, as a base hit by
Emily Williams drove in
Emma Rakes in the top of the third. Rakes had originally reached on a single, and taken third on a double by
Leslie Callahan. An error by the ATU first baseman allowed Callahan to score, giving the Blue Tigers an early 2-0 advantage.
Lincoln (0-2) stranded two Arkansas Tech (5-4) base runners during the bottom of the third, but ATU got on board in the fourth, as a pair of home runs led a 3-2 lead for the Golden Suns. ATU later scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth for the two-run difference in the final score.
The Blue Tigers managed to advance two runners to third during the final frame, and stranded five runners throughout the contest. Callahan went 3-for-3 at the plate to help LU out-hit ATU, 6-5.
Jacqueline Marquez also had a hit for Lincoln, and
Aidan Dayberry struck out four Golden Sun batters as the game's starting pitcher.
Maddie Welker also rang up a strikeout in the circle, and Callahan turned two assists while
Leah Wagner led the Blue Tigers with six putouts.
