Blue Tigers Dominate Second Half En Route to 67-47 Victory


JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team scored 40 second half points en route to a 67-47 home win over Stephens on Monday night (Dec. 19).

The first half featured five lead changes and three ties as the two programs ended up tied at 27. The second half was a different story, however, as a layup by Miriam Bazylewicz sprung LU onto an 8-0 run to open the half. The Blue Tigers shot .500 from the field in the third quarter and held Stephens (9-2) to just seven points on .182 shooting in that period. Lincoln (2-8) also tightened up along the perimeter in the second half, as the Stars, who made five baskets from three-point range in the first half, were 1-for-9 from long distance in the second.

Bazylewicz led LU with 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds to go with, two assists, a block and a steal. Ashlyn Alloway had three steals and a pair of assists while scoring 11 points and grabbing three rebounds. Alloway was 7-for-8 at the free throw line, as LU made 18 shots at the stripe on the evening compared to just five by Stephens. Lincoln shot .727 at the line during its dominant second half.

Le'Yanna McGinnis had 12 points, eight boards and a steal, and Kelsey Mitchell made a trio of three-pointers while scoring 13 points and securing four rebounds. Niyah Jackson provided a spark off the bench, finishing with five points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal. Saniya Simmons, meanwhile, led Lincoln with six steals and chipped in four points to go with three assists and a rebound.

AJ Bradley notched a steal and collected three rebounds to go with two points. Mercy Gonzalez also had two points and tallied a pair of steals, an assist and a rebound. Aliyah Bello rounded out the Blue Tigers with four points, two boards, a block and a takeaway.

Lincoln will be off for a holiday break before returning to action on New Year's Eve, as LU closes 2022 by hosting Nebraska Kearney on Dec. 31 at 1:00 p.m. CST.
