JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Six members of the Lincoln men's basketball team scored in double figures, two players recorded double-doubles, and LU enjoyed its best shooting performance thus far this season in a 128-36 victory over Calvary on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 19).
The 128 points were the most for the Blue Tigers since pouring in 132 against Robert Morris-Springfield in 2017. The win improves LU to 3-0 on the year, marking Lincoln's first 3-0 start to a campaign since 2015-16. It's also the first time that Lincoln has opened a season with three-straight home wins since 1977-78, when the Blue Tigers began the year 7-0 before finishing 22-6.
Lincoln shot a blistering .650 for the game and .613 from three-point range, connecting on 19 treys while making 52 total baskets from the field. The Blue Tigers were also stellar on defense, holding the Calvary (0-1) to just .125 shooting from long distance and .273 overall. The Blue Tigers forced 25 turnovers, leading to 37 LU points, and notched 17 steals while finishing with a decisive 53-18 advantage in rebounding.
Artese Stapleton and
Kevin Kone each turned in double-doubles, with Stapleton scoring a game-high 27 points and dishing 10 assists. Stapleton, who additionally blocked a shot, also finished with seven rebounds and six steals. Kone, meanwhile, had 18 points and 15 boards as well as an assist and a block.
Tyvin Garrison came off the bench to shoot 6-for-8 for 18 points, five rebounds and two steals.
Emmette Page tallied 16 points, a pair of assists and a steal, and
Jamar Madge, Jr. added 16 points, two boards, a pair of assists and a steal. Rounding out Lincoln's double-digit scorers was
Arash Yaqubi, who contributed 10 points, six rebounds and two assists to the Lincoln effort.
Caleb Wright and
Sam Rautins each scored eight points, with Wright also tallying five rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals while Rautins provided three boards and two takeaways.
Franck Yetna was next for LU with seven points and seven rebounds to go with two dimes and a steal.
Tyson Robinson finished second among the Blue Tigers with four assists, and
DJ Richardson closed the scoring with two points, two steals and two assists.
Richard Craddock also represented LU on the court in the victory.
Lincoln will play its first road game of 2022-23 on Monday, Nov. 28, as the Blue Tigers travel to Pittsburg, Kan. to open MIAA play with a 7:30 p.m. CST contest against Pittsburg State.
