Blue Tigers Fall in Season Finale


JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team closed its 2021 campaign on Saturday (May 1) with a pair of MIAA contests against Central Missouri. The Jennies won the opener, 6-0, and took advantage of some late runs to win the second game, 6-2.

In the opener, Jordan Hollon and Kendra Holt each had hits for Lincoln, and Alex Miller struck out four Jenny batters while starter Maddie Welker notched one strikeout. Central Missouri, however, got a run in the top of the first before taking a 5-0 lead through two, and stranded three Blue Tigers on base to preserve its win.

Holt led the LU defense with eight putouts while Emily Williams and Leah Wagner notched three apiece. Alivia Rymer had four assists and Hollon finished with two.

In the second game, UCM again scored in the first inning, and plated two more runs in the top of the fourth, but the Blue Tigers got back in the contest in the bottom half of the frame. Leslie Callahan led off the fourth inning with a single, and Jordan Lawson followed with a base hit of her own. Williams later reached first after laying down a bunt to load the bases, and Lincoln got on board when Miller scored Callahan on a sacrifice fly.

In the next at-bat, the Central Missouri catcher dropped the ball on strike three, and Lawson was able to score from second to pull Lincoln to within 3-2. The Blue Tigers forced the Jennies to go three-up, three-down in the top of the fifth, but UCM hit an RBI double in the sixth to take back a two-run lead. The Jennies would later plate two more insurance runs in the seventh.

Tressa Hughes struck out five Central Missouri batters as LU's starter, and Miller additionally had a hit for Lincoln. On defense, Lawson led Lincoln with six putouts, Wagner tallied five and Hollon finished with three. Callahan and Rymer each tallied an assist.
