JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team dropped a pair of games to Pittsburg State on Sunday (April 18), as LU fell in the opener, 5-0, and dropped the second game, 9-1.
In the first contest,
Jordan Hollon,
Kendra Holt and
Leslie Callahan each had hits for LU, while
Alex Miller pitched the complete game and struck out four Gorilla batters. The contest was scoreless through the first two innings, but Pittsburg State (15-23, 9-11 MIAA) opened the scoring in the third frame with a two-RBI double. PSU later tacked on another run in the sixth inning before bringing in a pair of runs in the seventh.
Holt,
Leah Wagner and
Jordan Lawson each recorded four putouts, while
Jacqueline Marquez and
Qwynn Marquez were each responsible for three. Hollon had two assists, and Callahan and
Jacqueline Marquez each had one.
Lincoln (6-29-1, 3-19 MIAA) struck first in the second game, as Hollon scored on a base hit from Lawson. Pittsburg State answered with a big second inning, however, driving in four runs to take control of the contest. LU finished with five hits, as Callahan and Lawson finished with two apiece, and Hollon had one.
Hollon hit a double, while Callahan had a triple.
Tressa Hughes opened the game in the circle and notched two strikeouts.
Maddie Welker and
Shannon Greene also pitched for LU. On defense, Holt had five putouts, Hollon recorded four and
Alivia Rymer was next with three.
Jacqueline Marquez led Lincoln with three assists.
The Blue Tigers will continue MIAA play on Tuesday (April 20) in Topeka, Kan. as Lincoln plays Washburn in a 3:00 p.m. CDT double-header.
