THIBODAUX, La. - The Lincoln football team played for the first time since November of 2019 on Friday night (Feb. 19), as the Blue Tigers played an exhibition game against NCAA Division I FCS opponent Nicholls State. The Blue Tigers made a field goal, but the Colonels, ranked No. 8 in FCS, ended up winning, 87-3.
Javier Moreno made his first career field goal as a Blue Tiger, connecting from 32 yards out on his only attempt of the night.
Tori Hicks was LU's leader on offense, as he rushed for 71 yards on 16 carries for an average of 4.4 yards per attempt. Hicks also gained 60 yards on returns.
Moreno averaged 45.5 yards on kickoffs while
Clayton Winkler had a punt go for 47 yards. Hicks,
Chrisshun Robinson,
LaCalvin Wilson,
CJ Closser,
Hosea Franklin and
Charles Johnson all caught passes for the Blue Tigers, with Hicks and Franklin catching three apiece. Franklin added 32 yards on the ground.
Elliot Albert led LU defensively with 10 tackles, and
TeAndre Skinner had six takedowns, including a tackle for loss.
Zyan Thomas-King provided eight tackles and
Charles Robertson,
Jaylon Mosley,
Cody Bagby and
Daniel Wheeler each had five.
Lincoln will next play on Saturday, March 6 at Grande Stadium in Midland, Texas against Texas-Permian Basin at 1:00 p.m. CST.
