Lincoln Improves to 4-2 With Second-Straight Road Win

FULTON, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team pulled out a thrilling 76-74 win at Westminster on Tuesday night (Nov. 23) to improve to 4-2 on the season.

Three Blue Tigers scored in double figures, including Niyah Jackson, who stole the ball and made a wide-open layup with 27 seconds remaining to provide the winning basket. Lincoln forced the Blue Jays to turn the ball over on the ensuing possession, forcing Westminster (3-3) to foul Jackson with 0.1 showing on the clock. She made the first free throw and intentionally missed the second to cause the clock to go to triple zeroes, and the Blue Tigers won on the road for the second-straight game.

Westminster led for most of the contest, taking advantage of .472 shooting from the floor and .429 shooting from the perimeter, as well as a 38-36 advantage on the glass. The Blue Tigers forced the Blue Jays into 25 turnovers, though, resulting in 25 points for LU. Jackson had 13 points, four steals, a block and three rebounds, and Hya Haywood added 11 points, two blocks, three steals, three assists and three boards. Imani Jones chipped in 10 points and collected three rebounds.

The Blue Jays led 22-15 after the first quarter, but the Blue Tigers out-scored Westminster in each of the remaining three periods. Lincoln fought back from an eight-point deficit in the third quarter to head into the final period with the game tied at 59. After WC made back-to-back treys to build a six-point advantage in the fourth quarter, Haywood made a pair of baskets and Le'Yanna McGinnis hit a layup to get LU back within one. Lincoln kept Westminster scoreless through the final two minutes of the contest, forcing three turnovers in that span.

McGinnis scored seven points and Kelsey Mitchell added six points to go with a team-high seven rebounds. Ayreona Carter came off the bench to score nine points, and Aliyah Bello and Kylie Bernskoetter each finished with four points and three rebounds. Mercy Gonzalez scored five points, dished three assists, pulled down four rebounds and had a steal. AJ Bradley also scored five points on the evening.

Following LU's win at William Jewell on Saturday (Nov. 20), the Blue Tigers have now won consecutive true road games for the first time since 2011-12.

Lincoln will next play Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo. to open MIAA play on Dec. 4.
