EDMOND, Okla. - For the second-straight week,
Hosea Franklin gained over 100 yards on the ground, but the Lincoln football team fell to Central Oklahoma on Saturday (Oct. 2).
Zamar Brake threw two touchdown passes and Franklin and
Tori Hicks scored on the ground, but the Bronchos prevailed, 69-28.
Franklin turned in his first 100-yard rushing performance of 2021 last weekend, with 115 yards against Northeastern State, and had another big day on Saturday with 137 yards on 19 carries. Franklin averaged 7.2 yards per carry, and Brake averaged 8.7 yards per rush while Hicks averaged 6.3 yards. Brake ended up gaining 61 yards on seven carries while Hicks rushed for 38 yards.
Central Oklahoma (2-3, 2-3 MIAA) scored the first two touchdowns of the game, but Lincoln (0-4, 0-4 MIAA) got on the board midway through the first quarter. After picking up a first down on runs by Brake and Franklin, Brake hit
Winston Ausmer for a 65-yard scoring pass to cut the UCO lead to 14-6. The Bronchos blocked the extra point attempt, however, and later scored on a four-yard run for a 21-6 advantage at the end of the first period.
The Bronchos added another touchdown early in the the second quarter, but Lincoln cut the UCO lead on a 55-yard rushing score by Franklin. The Blue Tigers went for two, and Hicks ran the ball in to pull LU to within 28-14. The Lincoln defense kept UCO out of the end zone for the rest of the first half, but the Bronchos did manage to kick a pair of field goals to increase its lead to 34-14 at the break.
The second half belonged to the Bronchos, but Lincoln ended up getting into the end zone on two more occasions.
Aderias Ealy caught a 74-yard touchdown pass from Brake in the third quarter, and Hicks score on a one-yard rush at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Ausmer caught a pass in the end zone on a two-point conversion, and Franklin caught three passes for 34 yards while
Samuel Ingoli had a pair of receptions for 12 yards. Brake finished his day with 195 passing yards.
TeAndre Skinner led LU with eight tackles,
Elliott Albert had six takedowns and broke up a pass to go with a tackle for loss, and
Jaylon Mosley and
Samuel Amituanai were each credited with hurries.
Charles Robertson and
Devyn Sigars each made six tackles, and Mosley,
Julian Jackson-Linkhart and
Malaefono Ale had five tackles apiece.
The Blue Tigers return to Jefferson City, Mo. next Saturday (Oct. 9) for its annual Homecoming game. The Blue Tigers will host Missouri Southern, with kickoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CDT.
