JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team racked up 15 hits, but dropped a pair of weather-shifted games to Southwest Baptist on Wednesday (March 11). The Blue Tigers dropped the opener, 12-4, and fell in the second, 3-1.
Both games were originally scheduled to be played in Bolivar, Mo., but were moved to LU Softball Field due to weather.
The first inning ended up being the difference in the opener, as Southwest Baptist (7-11) scored seven runs on four hits and three errors for the early advantage. Lincoln (8-12) had a big offensive opening frame as well, as four-straight hits resulted in
Emily Williams and
Kendra Holt scoring. LU managed to load the bases, but SBU kept its lead at 7-2 entering the second.
SBU added a pair of scores in the third, and despite two more LU hits, the 9-2 advantage held going into the fourth. The Bearcats scored twice in the top of the fourth, but Lincoln got back on the board in the bottom half of the inning, as
Mykenzie Livesay, Williams and Holt each had hits to open the inning. Livesay scored on Holt's double, and Williams came home on a sacrifice fly by
Jordan Hollon.
An RBI double allowed SBU to make it a 12-4 game in the top of the fifth, and that score would end up holding. Williams led LU with three hits, Holt and
Jordan Lawson each had two while Livesay, Miller and
Bekah Kirker had one apiece. Holt also had two RBI, and Williams scored a pair of runs.
Shannon Greene rang up a pair of strikeouts as the game's reliever, and Holt led LU with four putouts while Lawson and Hollon each were credited with three. Livesay, Hollon and Kirker all had assists.
In the second game, Southwest Baptist broke a scoreless tie with a run off an error in the top of the second. The Bearcats added two more runs in the third, but Lincoln answered in the fifth when Lawson scored on a sacrifice fly by
Tressa Hughes. Despite finishing the game with five hits, Lincoln ended up stranding six base runners, including three in scoring position.
Lawson had two hits while Williams, Hollon and
Payton Good each had one.
Ashton Stalling started in the circle and struck out two, and Holt led LU with eight putouts while Livesay finished with four. Kirker led LU with three assists, and Livesay and Hollon each turned two.
Lincoln remains at home on Friday (March 13) to host Missouri Western in a 1:00 p.m. CDT double-header.
