JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Lincoln men's basketball team shot .554 from the floor and .789 at the line en route to an 85-70 win over Emporia State on Saturday (Feb. 1).
Jonell Burton led the Blue Tigers with 20 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished three assists and registered a block to go with three steals.
Marcel Burton added 18 points, four boards, two assists and a steal, and
Cameron Potts contributed 13 points, a team-high five assists, a pair of steals and three rebounds.
Lincoln (8-12, 5-6 MIAA) also won the rebounding battle, 32-24, with
L'Kielynn Taylor pulling down a team-high eight rebounds. Taylor filled up the stat sheet on Saturday, scoring seven points, dishing two assists and blocking two shots while also notching a steal.
Jordan Notch, meanwhile, had three boards as well as nine points.
Emporia State (10-10, 4-7 MIAA) shot .480 from the field and .476 from three-point range, but committed 16 turnovers, resulting in 16 points for the Blue Tigers. Lincoln also had 15 second-chance points, compared to just five for the Hornets, and made seven treys in the first half. For the game, LU was .421 from three-point land.
Lamont Ballard, Jr. drained two of those treys and finished the day with nine points, three boards and three assists.
Alafia Oluwasogo had eight points and two rebounds in the win, and
Marcus Cohen, who also recorded a steal, made a free throw to close out the scoring.
Joe Davis also represented Lincoln with a rebound.
The Blue Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 5) as Lincoln travels to St. Joseph, Mo. to play Missouri Western at 7:30 p.m. CST.
