JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Three members of the Lincoln women's basketball team scored in double figures, but the Blue Tigers dropped their season opener to Missouri Southern, 81-65, on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 28).
Niyah Jackson led LU with 15 points and five assists, and
Deija Jackson added 12 points while
Aliyah Bello chipped in 10. Bello also pulled down four rebounds and tallied three steals while
Deija Jackson and
Niyah Jackson each had two.
Missouri Southern (1-3) was hot from the field, shooting .491 overall and .375 from long range. MSSU used a 10-0 run to break an early 5-5 tie, taking a 20-10 advantage at the break. Lincoln shot .350 overall and forced the Lions into 21 turnovers, but was held to just .304 shooting from long distance.
AJ Bradley had eight points to go with three boards and two steals, and
Haylie Holloway and
Kiara Cadore came off the bench to provide seven points apiece. Holloway additionally contributed three rebounds and two assists, and Cadore had a pair of rebounds.
Virja Lewis led the Blue Tigers with six rebounds and added four points, a steal and an assist.
Vivian Chigbu closed the scoring with two points and four rebounds, and
Ashtin Ingram contributed three rebounds to the Lincoln cause.
The Blue Tigers will continue the 2020-21 season on the road, traveling to St. Joseph, Mo. on Thursday night (Dec. 3) to play Missouri Western at 5:30 p.m. CST.
