BROOKFIELD, Ill. - Lincoln running back
Hosea Franklin, the MIAA's leading rusher in 2019, was named as a Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-American honorable mention on Monday morning (Jan. 27). Franklin had previously been selected to the Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-Super Region 3 first team.
Franklin, a sophomore who was also elected to the All-MIAA first team, opened the 2019 campaign by rushing for a program record 251 yards against Washburn. The only MIAA player to rush for more than 1,000 yards during the regular season, Franklin finished the season with a Lincoln single-season record 1,359 yards on 226 carries for an average of 6.0 yards per attempt. He finished the year ranked in the top-10 in NCAA Division II in both total rushing yards and rushing yards per game (123.6), and his 132.5 all-purpose yards per game ranked fourth in the MIAA.
The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen's Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003.
