KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Lincoln softball team was held to eight hits as the Blue Tigers dropped a double-header to Truman State on Tuesday (April 9). The Bulldogs took the first game from Lincoln, 8-0, and won the second, 14-1.
In the opener, the Blue Tigers limited the Bulldogs to a run in the first inning and two in the second before shutting out Truman State in the third and fourth frames. The Bulldogs managed to plate four runs in the fifth inning, however, and tacked on another in the sixth to earn the win.
Emily Williams had a single in the second inning, and
Gabi McGinty later was issued a walk to give LU a pair of base runners in that frame.
Rachael Balke singled to open the fourth inning, and later advanced to third on a base hit from
Tori Nienhueser.
Mykenzie Livesay, meanwhile, hit a double in the top of the sixth.
Shannon Greene notched a strikeout in the circle, and
Camryn Pryor led Lincoln with six putouts. Livesay, Nienhueser and
Bekah Kirker each contributed an assist.
In the second game, Lincoln (4-36) scored in the top of the second when Williams hit her third home run of the year. Pryor, Kirker and Nienhueser also had hits for LU in the night cap. Truman State (21-10), meanwhile, opened the game with a six-run first inning, and held off the Blue Tiger offense the rest of the way.
Jordan Lawson fanned a pair of Bulldog batters as Lincoln's closer, and
Trista Heavin, the game two starter, also recorded a strikeout. Lawson also led the defense with three putouts while Nienhueser had an assist.
Lincoln will return home on Friday (April 12) for an MIAA double-header against Lindenwood, with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CDT.
