Seniors Shine as Blue Tigers Beat Central Missouri, 78-59


JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - It was Senior Day for the Lincoln men's basketball team, and all five of LU's seniors made it one to remember as the Blue Tigers ended the 2018-19 regular season with a 78-59 victory over Central Missouri on Saturday (March 2).

The Blue Tigers improved to 17-11 on the year and wrapped up the fifth-best record in the MIAA with a 10-9 mark against conference opponents. Central Missouri, meanwhile, fell to 14-14 on the year and 7-12 in league play.

Amariontez Ivory led the all-senior starting five with 20 points, shooting 6-for-9 overall and 5-for-8 from three-point land, and he grabbed four rebounds to go with a steal and two assists. Terrance Smith added 10 points, five boards, an assist and a block, and Grant Olssen provided nine points, three boards, a pair of assists and a steal to the winning cause.

John Burton contributed eight points, three rebounds and two assists, and Darrius Spencer capped off his four-year career as a Blue Tiger with five points and three assists.

Central Missouri opened the game on a 10-5 run, but Lincoln scored 19-straight points to take a lead it would never relinquish. The Blue Tigers shot .607 in the first half, including .524 from beyond the arc, and led 46-24 at halftime. The Mules rallied to within 12 in the second half, but LU finished with a 30-22 advantage in rebounds and forced 13 UCM turnovers to seal the win.

Jonell Burton came off the bench to chip in 12 points, dish a team-high four assists, block a shot, notch a steal and secure four rebounds. L'Kielynn Taylor tied for the team-lead with five rebounds and tallied six points, two assists, a block and a steal.

TJ Babikir closed the scoring with eight points, and Gary Pendleton had a rebound.
