LIBERTY, Mo. - The Lincoln women's basketball team held a three-point lead at halftime, but William Jewell rallied in the second half to hand the Blue Tigers an 87-72 loss on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 24).
Kaloni Pryear led the Blue Tigers with 21 points and three steals, and
Natasha Dolinsky finished with 13 points, five rebounds, three steals and a block.
Vivian Chigbu and
Kiara Shoulders each scored eight points, with Chigbu also tallying four rebounds and a pair of steals.
William Jewell (3-2) had a 12-point lead late in the first quarter, but Lincoln (1-4) scored seven-straight points to get back in the ballgame. The Cardinals later took a 33-23 lead on a trey with 3:51 until the break, but LU ended the half on an 18-4 run to take a 40-37 lead into the intermission.
Chigbu hit a jumper to increase the Blue Tiger lead to five, but a three-pointer by WJC launched the Cardinals onto a 21-0 run that gave William Jewell control of the contest. The Cardinals held the Blue Tigers to seven points in the third quarter.
Lincoln shot .475 from the field, but just .111 from three-point range. LU also had a 34-29 advantage in rebounding and forced the Cardinals into 22 turnovers, but WJC shot .534 overall and .429 from three-point range to secure the comeback victory.
Alecia Gulledge had five points, a steal and a block, and
Virja Lewis finished with five points and five rebounds.
Natasha Elliott came off the bench to provide seven points and five boards, and
Nia McCaskill chipped in four points while
Anna Munoz Vidueira, who had three rebounds, made a free throw to close out the scoring.
Up next for the Blue Tigers is the UMSL Classic, hosted by the University of Missouri-St. Louis next weekend. Lincoln will play Maryville on Friday (Nov. 29) at 1:00 p.m. CST, and will take on UMSL on Saturday (Nov. 30) at 3:00 p.m. CST.
