Blue Tigers Drop 2019 Opener to Pittsburg State


JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Four members of the Lincoln women's basketball team scored in double figures, but Pittsburg State handed the Blue Tigers a 98-68 loss on Thursday evening (Jan. 3).

Bre Coleman scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Blue Tigers, and also blocked a shot while tallying three steals. Zoi Thompson also had eight boards to go with 13 points, four assists, a block and a steal, while Kaloni Pryear added 14 points and three rebounds.

Zhanesha Dickerson was LU's other leading scorer, finishing with 12 points, seven rebounds, a pair of assists, a block and a steal. Lincoln had 41 total rebounds to Pittsburg State's 48, but PSU notched 26 second chance points on 17 offensive boards.

Pittsburg State (11-1, 3-1 MIAA) shot .529 from the floor and made five treys en route to a 30-10 lead in the opening quarter. It was a 51-26 game at halftime, but the Blue Tigers scored 29 third quarter points on .650 shooting to push the Gorillas entering the final period.

The Gorillas shot .486 for the game and finished with 12 three-pointers on .414 shooting. Lincoln (9-3, 1-2 MIAA) was limited to .390 shooting overall and was held without a successful three-pointer on the evening. LU did finish with a 13-15 edge in turnovers, but had seven steals while Pittsburg State collected 12.

Kiara Shoulders had eight points and two boards for the Blue Tigers, and Alecia Gulledge added three points, four rebounds and a steal. Shannyn Triplett closed out the scoring with two points, two boards, an assist, a block and a steal while Tempary Gunter provided three rebounds.

Lincoln will remain at home on Saturday (Jan. 5) to host Missouri Southern in a 1:00 p.m. CST contest.
