JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - It was a tie game heading into the fourth quarter, but Wisconsin-Oshkosh scored on consecutive drives to edge the Lincoln football team, 17-7, on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 15).
Wisconsin-Oshkosh (2-1) scored on its opening drive, using a one-yard TD run with 7:58 left in the period to take a 7-0 advantage. The Lincoln (1-2) defense stifled the Titans afterwards, taking advantage of a fumble recovery and nine tackles for loss to keep UWO off the board until the final quarter.
Lincoln, playing its 2018 home opener, scored in the second quarter on a
Terry Hunter two-yard run to tie the game at seven. The Blue Tigers finished with more offensive yards than the Titans, gaining 285 compared to UWO's 273, but Wisconsin-Oshkosh was able to block two field goal tries, stopped LU twice in the red zone and came up with an interception on their own side of the field.
Hosea Franklin had the first 100-yard game of his career, rushing for 116 yards on 19 carries. Franklin also gained 24 receiving yards, while
Justin Korakakos led Lincoln with 35 receiving yards.
A'Jani Johnson added 28 yards on three receptions.
Henry Ogala, meanwhile, completed 13 passes for 134 yards.
Edwin Durassaint led the Lincoln defense with 11 tackles, including three for a loss, while
Hasan Muhammad-Rogers made seven takedowns, including a sack.
Amani Nelson tallied nine tackles and
Isaiah Gray added seven, with both players making a tackle for a loss.
JaJuan Chambers recorded the fumble recovery.
Fernando Ramirez averaged 60.0 yards on a pair of kickoffs while
Wolky Belancourt averaged 39.0 yards punting with a long of 42. Johnson provided 40 yards between kick and punt returns.
The Blue Tigers will remain at home to open GLVC play next Saturday (Sept. 22) against Southwest Baptist. Kickoff for that contest is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CDT.
